5.4.13

there's a half of me that drags its feet
there's a half of me that pulls my mouth into a frown
there's a half of me that cowers in the shadow at the magnitude of this risk
all the time
all the time

there's another half that wants to simply be happy
but it spends its time picking up the other half
telling it to stop misbehaving
it hasn't the time to be really happy

trust
is the scariest leap i've ever taken
am taking

love
requires the biggest courage i've ever known
it does not come as naturally as the storybooks will tell you
it comes when you look at a raging fire
and decide
you don't mind getting burnt

i used to know where i belong
in the house we built for each other
but now there's always a door open
something is leaking somewhere
at night the wind howls louder than it used to
at this point i don't know if i should fix it
or find a new house

but you are the only house i've ever known
